Embroidery

Embroidery is one of the most ancient crafts known. Almost every civilization has had its own traditions of embroidery. Its origins are incredibly old- dating back to 30,000 BC! Pieces can be found in Palestine, Egypt, China and other places as well. The basic technique requires only a needle and thread which comes in a variety of materials. The thread can be cotton, wool, silk, or nylon and can also be coated with silver and gold.

These days you can find amazing machine-made embroidery. Despite that, homemade embroidery is still appreciated by many people because it results in uniquely beautiful pieces and is a rare skill.

The machines are valuable though and can produce interesting works of art. All embroidery machines are considered complex. While most automated instruments tend to be complex, they can be particularly so.
