This craft is a bit similar to crochet but requires a much finer technique. Instead of a crochet hook, a sewing needle is used. Also, the threads used are much finer and thinner than the ones used in crochet. This makes it much more difficult and the products take much longer to complete. Its origin is in 16th century in Italy. Many villages in Syria practice needle, but the city of Sweida and its surrounding suburbs are the most famous for it. They are especially known for their head covers. If one has a head cover made in Sweida, that is reason to brag.
